Swaddle Blankets

Swaddling is the ancient method of snugly wrapping up your baby to help him feel safe and secure.
Being wrapped up can stop your baby from being disturbed by his own startle reflex. You may have noticed your baby doing little jerks of his body when he’s sleeping. These jerks are his startle reflex (hypnagogic startles) and are completely normal.
Swaddling your baby can also help to settle him down when he’s over-stimulated.

How to swaddle your baby:

*  Spread the Muslin Blanket on a flat surface and fold down the top right corner about 15cm (6in).
*  Lay your baby on his back with his head on the fold.
*  Pull the corner near your baby’s left hand across his body. Tuck the leading edge under his right arm and around under his back.
*  Pull the bottom corner up under your baby’s chin.
* Bring the right-hand corner over and tuck it under his back on the left side.
*  Some babies prefer to have their arms free, in which case just swaddle your baby under his arms.

When to stop swaddling

You should stop swaddling your baby as soon as he starts rolling over onto his tummy during sleep. If he’s swaddled when he is older he may have difficulties breathing. As he gets older he will start to move around more during sleep, and swaddling could make him uncomfortable and likely to wake up.

MUSLIN
One of the purest and most gentle fabrics available, Muslin is a cotton fabric of plain weave. Made in a wide range of weights from delicate sheers to coarse sheeting. It gets its name from the city of Mosul, Iraq, where it was first manufactured – it has been around for centuries. Muslin is Lightweight and Breathable, making this fabric very fitting for use with babies.

Durability

The durability of muslin swaddle blankets also make them loved by parents. Muslin is strong and durable and can withstand many washes. In fact, the muslin fabric itself will get softer the more you wash it. Muslin baby blankets also have a natural stretchiness about them, so you can easily swaddle your baby without immobilising the little one. Your baby can still move comfortably, but not too much. The snugness of these swaddles help your little one feel cosy and comfy, just like the secure feeling of still being in the womb.

Why Buy Organic?

Choosing organic products helps keep chemicals out of the environment and away from kids. Polyester emits chemicals that can cause allergies, chemical sensitivities and serious health problems. Natural fabrics include cotton, linen, wool, cashmere and silk. The best fabric for children is 100% cotton.

Avoid Synthetic fibres for children. They are generally made of the primary sources of petroleum and cellulose (cotton liners and wood pulp). They are not breathable nor absorbable, which makes them hot in summer and cold in winter. Frequently, they hold an electric charge, which produces static cling and requires chemical sprays.

Our founder, Angie Ting, set out to create a collection of eco-friendly products for her two young children. Angie’s vision was bold; motivated by concern for infant health, the environment and the ecological impact of conventional farming. In 2009 she formed a partnership with Pate International, a highly respected San Francisco design firm with a rich heritage of environmentally conscious projects. Susan Pate, along with her daughter Chloe Pate, helped her realise her dream. Together they created Apple Park…and the rest…is history.
